Visitors are advised to use waterproof protection for their equipment, as moisture and occasional dripping water are natural features of the cave environment.

How deep is Harrison’s Cave?
The Harrison’s Cave system extends approximately 2.3 kilometers (1.5 miles) through the central uplands of Barbados. Interestingly, the cave is not deep below the ocean; it actually sits roughly 700 feet (210 meters) above sea level.
The most impressive part of the system is “The Great Hall,” a massive cavern with a ceiling that towers about 15 meters (50 feet) high. Visitors don’t need to worry about steep descents or narrow crevices—the standard tram tours navigate safe, well-lit, and professionally maintained passages, making the experience accessible for all ages. -
Can you swim in Harrison Lagoon?
The crystal-clear lagoon at the base of the waterfall inside the cave is strictly off-limits for swimming. This area is a protected natural feature and is only for viewing during the standard tram tours.
However, if you are looking to get wet, you have two options:
The Eco-Adventure Tour: This is a strenuous 3.5-hour “dry and wet” trek. While you won’t be doing laps in the main lagoon, you will wade through underground streams and pools that can reach waist-deep levels. You will be provided with a helmet, headlamp, and knee pads.
The Outdoor Pool: Most “Adventure” packages (like the Ultimate Adventure Pass) now include access to the park’s outdoor swimming pool and lounge area, located at the surface facility.
Pro Tip: If you book the Eco-Adventure Tour, bring a full change of clothes and a towel, as you will be soaked and likely covered in some cave mud by the end of the experience! -
How long does the Harrison’s Cave tour take?
A standard tram tour runs about 45 minutes to an hour, depending on how many stops the guide makes for photos and explanations. If you add activities like the zipline or challenge course, plan on spending 2-3 hours at the park. The full Ultimate Adventure Pass experience can easily take 4-5 hours if you want to do everything without rushing.

Is it worth getting a car in Barbados?
If you’re only visiting Harrison’s Cave and a beach, probably not. Taxis and tour packages are easy to arrange. But if you want to explore at your own pace—hit multiple attractions, discover random villages, stop at local restaurants—then renting a car makes sense. Driving is on the left side, roads are decent, and distances are short. Gas isn’t cheap, and parking can be tight in busy areas, but you get freedom. We’d say rent one for 2-3 days if you’re staying longer than a week. For a quick 3-day trip, stick with tours and taxis.
